Tavana Podi 

Ingredients:

Coconut-1 cup grated
Coriander seeds / Malli -5 tblspn
Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu / Split Pigeon Peas -3 tblspn
Dry Red Chilli-6
Garlic -10 cloves
Tamarind-1 small lime size
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Salt to taste
Oil-1 tblspn

Method:

Heat 1 tsp of oil in a heavy bottom pan..Add in toor dal and fry till golden.Remove and set aside.

Heat 1 tsp of oil and add in coriander seeds..Fry till golden.Remove and set aside.

Now fry dry chillies in the kadai till golden.Remove and set aside.

Now add 1 tsp of oil and add in coconut and fry till it turns dark golden..Remove this and put it in a separate bowl.

Allow everything to cool down.

Take the fried chillies, coriander seeds and toor dal in a blender and make in to a powder.

Now add in garlic, tamarind, curry leaves and salt and powder it again.

Now add in fried coconut and make into a fine powder.

Let this cool down..Store this in air tight container.

Enjoy this with curd rice or dosa.
